Fillah Karim

Fillah is a Laser Sailor from Vancouver, born in 1997, representing the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. He is training full-time, campaigning towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He has big goals, aiming to both qualify for, and win a medal at these Olympics.

After having done a summer sailing camp at the Hollyburn Sailing Club, Fillah began sailing competitively at the age of 12 on the North Shore Sailing Team, based from the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Initially, he sailed in the 420 class, but very quickly changed to the Laser Radial, which was a better fit for him. After a couple of years, he moved over to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, for the opportunity to train in what was the best local race team at the time. Right from his first experiences in the sport, at the age of 12, he had his sights set on the Olympic Games, quitting all other sports and activities to give 100% of his energy to this pursuit. 7 years later, not much has changed. He is much further along in the sport and now training full-time, but he is still that same kid with ambitious goals - and the work ethic to back it up.
