Jonathan Sponholz-Ruskin and Tristan Tolmie-Daymond have been racing together out of Kingston, Ontario, for several years, racing together in Optis, competing in the C420 and in 2025, they made the move to the 49er FX as a stepping stone towards the 49er.

Some notable results from the last couple of seasons include:
1st place at the Sail Canada Senior National Championship (49erFX)
5th place at Ontario Summer Games (c420)
8th place at Four Sisters Open (c420)
5th place at Steerers Invitational (c420)

Their first season in the 49erFX included many hours on the water, and with coaching from some of Canada’s top skiff sailors, including Ali Ten Hove, Mariah Millen, Arie Moffat, Hunter Hoy, and John Curtis, they improved quickly, and after a good debut regatta in the 49erFX, they are now aiming to compete at larger regattas with stronger fleets.

For 2026, the focus is on the Oakcliff Triple Crown Series in Oyster Bay, NY. The series draws strong development teams from across North America and runs a high volume of racing over a short period — the kind of competitive, dense fleet environment that's hard to find in Canada at the development level. It's a great opportunity to measure progress against a bigger, faster field and build race experience.

For the 2026 season, they will be a part of the Ontario Sailing Development Racing Team and are excited to have the opportunity to work with some great coaches and improve with the support of the provincial program.

Competing in skiff racing carries costs — equipment, travel, and coaching. Any support through Wind Athletes Canada goes directly toward making that possible.
