James Fair & Alexandra McDonald are campaigning for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the Mixed 470 class.
The Mixed 470 was a new addition to the Olympics Games in Paris 2024. What would it mean to accomplish their goal? being the first team in Canadian history to compete in the Mixed 470 class.
A competitive nature and a love for the sport of sailing are two of the characteristics that define who they are.
Growing up in Kingston, Canada, the freshwater sailing capital of the world, James has been sailing as long as he can remember and began racing at just 8 years old. After winning Gold at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, James began exploring a new opportunity in the mixed 470. As a member of the 2023/2024 Canadian Sailing Youth Squad, James competed at his 5th World Championships representing Canada.
At nine, Alex began sailing at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, spending her life on the water between Melbourne, Australia and Canada. She grew up racing dinghies and as a competitive rower through high school and university, developed a strong athletic base and competitive edge. After moving to Canada in 2024 and getting a taste for the 470 at the North Americans, Alex is excited to bring her high-performance background and love for the water to a new competitive challenge.
Their 2026 season kicks off with training in Miami, Florida, leading up to the North American Championships from January 17th-19th. Aiming for the World Championships in Enoshima, Japan, and training with the Australian Futures Team, they have a packed schedule ahead on the road to the Olympic Qualifier in 2027.
Competing in World Championships from Germany to Morocco, and winning National Championship titles, their passion for the sport continues to develop as they strive to reach new heights at the 2028 Olympic Games.
