My name is Maya Wolf, and I am a 16 year old sailor from West Vancouver, B.C. I’ve been sailing since I was 11 years old, and from the very beginning I loved it. I started sailing through summer camps at Hollyburn Sailing Club, where I fell in love with the sport.
When I turned 13, I decided I wanted to do more racing, so I joined the West Vancouver Yacht Club where I started sailing ILCA 4 and 6. This was when my competitive sailing journey really began. In 2023, I began travelling for regattas with the West Van team, competing in Florida and California for the Midwinters regattas, as well as at my first ILCA 4 World Championships in Volos, Greece. The following year, I continued racing with my team in Florida and California, and competed at the ILCA 4 Worlds in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, where I finished as the top Canadian girl.
This past year has been my biggest yet. I competed in my first senior event in Long Beach, California, and at my first ILCA 6 World Championships also in California, where I placed as the top Canadian girl and achieved a dream I’ve been working toward for years, qualifying for my first ISAF Youth Worlds. I’m so grateful and proud to have the chance to represent Canada this December in Portugal for the Youth Worlds.
This is only the beginning of my journey. My long-term goal is to win a medal for Canada at the Olympics, help take Canadian sailing to the next level, and inspire young Canadian girls in the sport to do the same. I am deeply committed to this sport, to training hard, learning every day, and doing everything I can to reach my full potential.
Sailing has given me so much already, resilience, determination, and so many great people that I have met along the way that I am so thankful for. Continuing to compete internationally requires significant travel, equipment, and coaching costs. Any support you can offer, no matter the amount, makes a monumental difference and helps me continue pursuing my dream.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering supporting my journey. Every donation, every word of encouragement, and every share means the world to me. I promise to work hard, represent Canada with pride, and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.
With gratitude,
Maya Wolf
