When McGill Athletics and Recreation cut 15 varsity and competitive club sports teams, McGill Sailing lost access to the resources we’ve relied on for over 15 years to continue competing at the highest level.
The McGill University Sailing Team is a competitive, student-led collegiate sailing team. We are a team of 32 sailors who compete in both the Canadian and New England competitive circuits at the varsity-level against teams like UofT, Queen’s Harvard, and Boston University. As a consistent fleet leader at national-level events, most recently as the 2023 Canadian Intercollegiate Champions, we have proven ourselves time and time again.
We run an intensive season each fall: training four times a week, running 2 weekends of Learn to Sail fundraisers, and hosting between 304 regattas including regional- and national-level events.
Home to Quebec’s only fleet of z420s, maintaining our fleet extends Quebec’s ability to be represented in Canadian collegiate sailing. However, doing so means we commit to funding the high costs of maintenance and to an ambitious 6-year refleeting plan in order to keep our fleet in competitive condition.
As a self-funded team, we rely entirely on fundraising to repair our fleet. Historically, the majority of these funds have come from crowdfunding campaigns, such as McGill24, where donations are partially matched by university alumni.
Unfortunately in November 2025, McGill Athletics and Recreation concluded an audit of their athletics programming that resulted in the cut of 15 varsity and competitive club sports teams, including McGill Sailing. This cut our access to McGill24 and other alumni channels we’ve depended on for years.
Your support helps to build the team’s resilience and capacity and is invaluable in allowing us to continue operating as a pillar of youth racing in Canada.
To our community of supporters, thank you for your generosity and continued support of the team. Allez, allez, allez!
