Yo what’s up, I’m BZ

I started sailing at the age of nine at my local summer camp program hosted by the Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club. Even if I didn’t know the difference between a tack and a gybe, something about the magic of sailing totally hooked me. I skippered the C420 competitively in the Canadian circuit for three years, with my best finish at 9th in the nation.

In 2024 I transitioned into the 29er which I have been sailing ever since. That first year was all about exploration and developing a strong foundation in the much faster, tippier and exciting skiff. That year ended strong with a 5th overall at the North Americans.

In 2025 I began to explore the international fleet by spending the summer in Europe training with and learning from the best. The jump was definitely big and I absolutely got knocked around a little, though this just inspired me to keep pushing harder. Overseas I was able to consistently podium in the u17 mixed category at events such as the European and World Championships. On the Canadian side, I finished as the male/mixed national champion.

In 2026 I began sailing with Simon Thompson who just ended a long and impressive opti career. There was absolutely some time swimming in those first few weeks, but we were ripping in no time. This summer we trained and competed across two different continents focusing on solidifying speed in every wind condition and creating opportunities for consistent success in races. We ended the year strong with a second at the North American and Canadian Championships, allowing us to qualify to represent team Canada at the ISAF Youth World Championships this December in Vilamoura Portugal.

Training (2026, up to October): 239 hours across 82 days.

- Notable invited camps - RNSYS May high performance clinic

- Lewin-LaFrance + Thomas Berg (Olympic coach) camp

Results (2026):

● Silver at Canadian championships (back to back male national champion)

● Silver at North American championships (top male)

● Silver at Sail East championship

● Bronze fleet Open world championship

● 8th Midwinter’s West

● 6th Midwinter’s East
