Skipper: Éloi Vien started sailing at the age of 10. He began with the Optimist and Laser 2 at the Petit Lac Magog Sailing Club. He then moved on to the Topper in the racing team to start competing. For 4 years, he achieved several consecutive podiums at the Howson Cup. Subsequently, he switched to the Laser, continuing to secure podium finishes and eventually qualifying for the Jeux du Québec.
Crew: Thomas Marmen-Leao also began sailing at the age of 10 at CNPLM. After 1 year, he joined the racing group, competing in the Optimist and later in the Topper, winning multiple podiums at the Howson Cup. He then transitioned to the Laser, also qualifying for the Jeux du Québec and continuing to achieve podium finishes. In 2020, during a training day, a member of the sailing club offered Thomas to try his 29er with him. As soon as he felt the power of the boat, Thomas knew he wanted to specialize in the 29er. At that time, he was only 12 years old but was already determined to make the 29er his passion.
In 2022, Thomas met Éloi, who had just joined the racing team. Two years later, Thomas bought a 29er without really knowing with whom he would sail or how he would be coached, as there were no 29ers at the club. The following year, Éloi and Thomas registered for the RSTLYC with the racing team for the fall session, with training every Sunday. They had to travel to Dorval every Sunday as they lived in Sherbrooke. They made multiple improvements to their boat to be ready for the Fall Cork regatta after only two training sessions. For their first 29er regatta, they finished 9th out of 12 without even learning how to do starts or other technical maneuvers with the boat. Despite their 22-year-old boat and equally old sails, they managed to secure a very decent place for their first race. They want to continue next year at the RSTLYC, but this time, if they manage to raise the necessary money, they plan to participate in a full season of races and eventually change their boat to compete in the World Championships in the future.
