Skipper: Nicole Torrie   Crew: Dylan Scott

Nicole grew up in Marblehead Massachusetts where she raced Opti, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6 with Pleon Yacht Club and c420 with her high school sailing team. Nicole moved to Halifax to study Environmental Science and Sustainability at Dalhousie University.

Dylan grew up in Mississauga Ontario where he sailed c420 and Hobie 16 on the Great Lakes. Dylan moved to Halifax to study Management at Dalhousie University.

We met on the Dalhousie Sailing Team where we trained in c420, J22, and Flying Tiger 7.5 during our undergraduate degrees. Occasionally we sailed together, but more often we found ourselves competing against each other. In 2024 we reconnected and decided to get into the 470! After a 6th place finish (top Canadian boat) at the 2025 North American Championships, we are excited to keep developing our skills.

When not sailing, Nicole is back at Dalhousie completing her Masters degree in Oceanography and Dylan works in the Naval Reserve.

The Goal

Our ultimate goal is to represent Canada at the LA 2028 Olympics! There is a long road ahead of us full of training and international events. Between boat maintenance, travel expenses, and general gear requirements, staying competitive in this fleet comes with a hefty price tag. Donations and sponsorships make a huge difference for us and allow us to keep chasing this dream.

At the moment we are fundraising for a boat. Our current training boat, which we do not own, is now an out of date mold for the class and is a bit slower than newer hull molds. Upgrading our gear will allow us to be more competitive at regattas.

There are currently no other active 470 teams on the East Coast of Canada, meaning that we have to travel far, and often internationally, to meet up with other 470 sailors for training and events. Lining up against other 470s is invaluable to us, as it allows us to benchmark our training progress and gives us a competitive edge that we can’t get when training alone. By adding a second boat to our fleet in Halifax we will be able to get other 470 teams out on the water with us for mutual training benefit.

We appreciate the support!
