Mark Mains is a youth wingfoil athlete and junior sailing instructor from Kingston Yacht Club (KYC) representing Canada at the inaugural X-15 World Championships in Ibiza, Spain, from November 4-8.
The Starboard X-15 is the first high-performance, one-design wingfoil racing recognized by World Sailing (since Nov 2025).
After winning FoilKingston 2026 in July, Mark was encouraged by supporters within the WeCanFoil community to represent Canada at the inaugural X-15 Worlds. He is in Halifax over Thanksgiving weekend for the first Canadian X-15 regatta, CanFoilCup, before heading to X-15 Worlds as the only Canadian competitor among 116 of the world’s top wingfoil athletes from 28 nations.
Mark is a dual Canadian and New Zealand citizen who has competed internationally in Wingfoil and Optimist sailing regattas, including Opti Worlds in 2022, the Baltic Cup, and the Antigua and Caribbean Wingfoil Championships. He has also raced nationally in New Zealand in the P-Class, Feva and Starling classes. He is now based in Canada studying first year Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, sporting ambitions to enter future World Sailing and elite foiling events, including a possible Olympic pathway if the sport is ultimately included.
This campaign is being carried by the family upfront, and donations will help offset the costs of an international competition budget, including athlete travel, accommodation, equipment hire, entry fees, and insurance. Your support will make a meaningful difference in helping a young Canadian athlete compete at the highest level in a rapidly growing foiling class.
