WELCOME TO MY JOURNEY
My name is Jacob Townsend. Thank you for taking a moment to learn about my path in high-performance sailing. This space brings together the people who believe in my journey, longtime supporters and new visitors alike. I’m grateful to share my story with you.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT ME
I am 21 years old. My hometown is Hudson, Quebec. I study at Concordia University’s Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, where I am completing my second year in Mechanical Engineering.
I am a competitive Canadian sailor specializing in the ILCA 7 class, the men’s single‑handed Olympic dinghy. I have competed in national and international events, including Canadian and North American championships, and U21 World Championships in the past three years in Poland, Portugal and Ireland. I began sailing at age 8 and progressed quickly through provincial and national levels, earning recognition for my discipline, tactical decision-making, and resilience on the water.
THE MISSION AHEAD
My focus is on continuous improvement at the international level. High-performance sailing demands year-round training, international competition, and constant physical and technical development. Each season includes extensive time on the water, strength and conditioning work, and training alongside top athletes.
MY GOALS
I am committed to pushing my performance on the world stage and contributing to the growth of Canadian sailing.
- Compete consistently at major international regattas and represent Canada at World Sailing Championships across Europe and North America.
- Qualify for the Canadian Olympic ILCA 7 Men’s Sailing Team
- Inspire young sailors across Canada and Quebec

WHAT IT TAKES TO COMPETE ON THE WORLD STAGE
Competing at this level requires significant annual investment. Travel, coaching, equipment, boat chartering, regatta fees, training camps, and logistics all play a role. While some programs offer support, they cover only part of what is required to compete internationally.
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MEANS
Your support helps make high-level training and competition possible. It strengthens my ability to line up against the world’s best, continue improving, and represent Canada with pride.
Thank you for your time, encouragement, and belief in my journey. I’m deeply grateful for your support and your confidence.
