My name is Ethan Thompson, and I sail in the Waszp class. I’m reaching out to inquire about setting up a Wind Athletes page and learning more about how the program could help me take the next step in my sailing career.
I grew up in Bermuda, where I competed in the Optimist class, including finishing 26th at the Optimist World Championships in 2022, before moving to Canada later that year to pursue higher-level sailing. I began sailing the 29er and had a strong first season, finishing 2nd at the Canadian Nationals and 3rd at the Canadian Youth Championships.
After that season, I decided to focus on the Waszp. Since then, I’ve been training and competing consistently, with the goal of reaching the highest level of the sport.
This year, that hard work has started to pay off. I had a major breakthrough season, including:
6th at the Waszp World Championships
1st at the Canadian Waszp National Championships
1st at the Waszp North American Championships
1st at the Waszp Americas Championships
I’m now looking to build on these results and take the next step in my development and competitive sailing career.
