Jake grew up in Kingston and learned his sailing basics at Kingston Yacht Club. He loved the speed of the 29er and was soon hooked. After placing 2nd at the 2017 29er Canadian Championships with Cameron Baird, he and Galen paired up to compete at the Canada Summer Games. Jake won the Jim Smith award in high school which represents the top athlete in a sport outside of the school system and has competed at OFSSAA in soccer and cross country. Jake will be pursuing a Commerce degree at University.
After bringing Ontario home a Silver Medal from the 2017 Canada Summer Games, Galen and Jake went on to win the Sail Canada Youth Championships. They were the 2018 29er Canadian Champions, 2nd and top Youth at the 2018 US Nationals and 2nd at the 2018 29er North Americans. Following a short break due to an injury Jake sustained while sailing, they have moved onto the 49erFX and now the 49er full rig. After spending the 2019 winter in Miami training, training with the Canadian Sailing Team and Development Squad, they will train in Toronto, Kingston and then Halifax before heading to the Europe for competition this summer.
